Android Call Screening

Android Call Screening is a feature that allows you to effectively manage incoming calls by screening and filtering unwanted calls, such as spam, robocalls, and telemarketers. It’s designed to help you avoid answering unwanted calls and reduce disruptions. Different Android devices and versions might have slightly different implementations, but the general process is as follows:

Google Phone App:

  • Call Screening is often a feature of the default Google Phone app on Android devices. Make sure your device is running a relatively recent version of Android and has the Google Phone app installed.

Enable Call Screen:

  • Open the Google Phone app.
  • Go to the app’s settings. This is usually accessible by tapping the three-line menu icon or the gear icon within the app.
  • Look for the “Spam and Call Screen” or similar option. This might be under “Call settings,” “Caller ID & Spam,” or a similar heading.
  • Enable the Call Screen option.

Screening Calls:

  • When you receive an incoming call, you might see a “Screen call” option on your screen in addition to the usual “Answer” and “Decline” buttons.
  • Tap “Screen call” to allow Google Assistant to answer the call for you.

Google Assistant Interaction:

  • Google Assistant will answer the call and ask the caller to state their name and the purpose of the call.
  • A live transcription of the caller’s response might appear on your screen. You can read this transcript in real time.

Choose Action:

  • Based on the caller’s response and the transcript, you can decide if you want to answer the call, mark it as spam, or hang up.
  • You can make this decision by interacting with the Google Assistant prompts on your screen.

Manage Call Screen Settings:

  • You can customize how Call Screen works and manage your blocked numbers and spam settings through the Google Phone app settings.

Please note that the availability of the Call Screen feature might depend on your Android device’s manufacturer and the version of Android it’s running. Some device manufacturers might have their own call screening features that are integrated into the default phone app.

Keep in mind that while Call Screening can be a useful tool, it might not catch all unwanted calls, and legitimate calls might occasionally be screened as well. Make sure to regularly review your blocked and spam numbers to ensure that important calls aren’t being missed.
