How to Activate Do Not Disturb While Driving on Android

The Android devices do not have a built-in “Do Not Disturb While Driving” feature like some iOS devices have. However, you can achieve a similar result by using Android’s existing “Do Not Disturb” feature and some additional settings. Here’s how you can set up a Do Not Disturb mode while driving on Android:

Method 1: Using Do Not Disturb Mode and Automation (Android 10 and later)

Android 10 and later versions offer more advanced “Do Not Disturb” settings and automation through the Digital Wellbeing & Parental Controls feature. Here’s how to set up a Do Not Disturb mode while driving:

Enable Do Not Disturb Mode:

  • Open the “Settings” app on your Android device.
  • Scroll down and select “Sound & vibration” or “Sound & notification,” depending on your device and Android version.
  • Tap on “Do Not Disturb.”

Set Up Do Not Disturb Rules:

  • Depending on your Android version, you may see “Schedules” or “Rules.” Select the appropriate option.

Create a New Rule:

  • Tap “Add rule” or a similar option to create a new rule.

Name the Rule:

  • Give your rule a name (e.g., “Driving Mode”).

Choose a Condition:

  • You can set up a rule based on a time schedule, event, or condition. To create a driving mode rule, choose the “Event” or “Condition” option (the wording may vary depending on your device).

Select “Driving” or Similar Condition:

  • Look for an option related to driving, car Bluetooth, or car mode. Some devices may have this condition available, while others may require third-party apps to detect driving mode.

Configure Driving Rule:

  • Customize the rule settings based on your preferences. For example, you can choose whether to allow calls from certain contacts, allow alarms, or allow repeat callers to break through Do Not Disturb.

Save the Rule:

  • After configuring the rule, save it.

Activate Driving Mode:

  • Whenever you start driving, your Android device should automatically activate the Do Not Disturb mode based on the rule you created. Calls, notifications, and alerts will be silenced or handled according to your settings.

Method 2: Using Driving Mode Apps (Third-Party)

There are third-party apps available on the Google Play Store designed specifically for creating a Do Not Disturb mode while driving. These apps can automatically detect when you’re driving and activate a driving mode. Examples include “Driving Detective” and “Driving Mode Free.” You can download and use these apps to simplify the process.

Please note that the availability of features and settings may vary depending on your Android device’s manufacturer and software version. Additionally, Android updates and changes may have occurred since my last knowledge update in September 2021, so be sure to check your device’s specific settings and available apps for the most up-to-date options.
