How to split screen on Android
Split-screen mode on Android allows you to view and use two apps simultaneously, side by side. The method for activating split-screen mode may vary slightly depending on the Android version and the device manufacturer’s customizations, but I’ll provide you with a general guide:
Method 1: Using Recent Apps Button (on Android 10 and later):
- Open the first app you want to use in split-screen mode.
- Tap the recent apps button, usually represented as a square or the recent apps icon (it’s located at the bottom of the screen, typically to the right of the home button).
- Find the second app you want to use in split-screen mode in the list of recent apps. Swipe up or down to scroll through the list if necessary.
- Tap on the app’s icon or window in the recent apps list. You should see options like “App info” and “Split screen” (or “Open in split screen” on some devices).
- Select “Split screen.” The first app will be placed at the top of the screen, and the second app will appear at the bottom.
- You can adjust the divider between the two apps by dragging it up or down.
- To exit split-screen mode, you can drag the divider all the way to the top or bottom of the screen, or you may see an option to exit split screen when tapping the app switcher icon.
Method 2: Using Home Button (on Android 9 and earlier):
- Open the first app you want to use in split-screen mode.
- Tap the recent apps or app switcher button, usually represented as a square or the recent apps icon (it’s located at the bottom of the screen, typically to the right of the home button).
- Find the second app you want to use in split-screen mode in the list of recent apps.
- Long-press on the app’s icon or window in the recent apps list.
- Select “Split screen” from the menu that appears. The first app will be placed at the top of the screen, and the second app will appear at the bottom.
- You can adjust the divider between the two apps by dragging it left or right.
- To exit split-screen mode, you can drag the divider all the way to the left or right of the screen, or you may see an option to exit split screen when tapping the app switcher icon.
There is not all apps support split-screen mode, and some custom Android interfaces from manufacturers might have variations in the process. Additionally, the availability of split-screen mode may vary on older Android versions and certain devices.
