How to Move Apps to SD Card on Android
Moving apps to an SD card on an Android device can help free up internal storage space. However, not all apps can be moved, and the steps to move apps to an SD card can vary slightly depending on your device’s manufacturer and Android version. Here’s a general guide to moving apps to an SD card:
Note: Before proceeding, make sure you have an SD card inserted into your device.
- Open the “Settings” app on your Android device.
- Scroll down and tap on “Apps” or “Applications,” depending on your device.
- You will see a list of installed apps. Select the app you want to move to the SD card. Keep in mind that not all apps can be moved. Pre-installed system apps and some downloaded apps may not have the option to move.
- Once you’ve selected an app, you will see its details screen. Look for an option that says “Storage” or “Storage & cache” and tap on it.
- You will see information about the app’s storage usage. If the app can be moved to the SD card, you will see an option that says “Change” or “Change storage location.” Tap on it.
- A pop-up window will appear with options for where to store the app. Select “SD card” or “SD card storage” as the destination.
- Depending on your Android version, you may have the option to move only a portion of the app’s data or the entire app. Choose the option that suits your needs and tap “Move” or “Move to SD card.”
- The system will start moving the app and its data to the SD card. This process may take a few moments, depending on the size of the app.
- Once the move is complete, you’ll see a confirmation message.
- Repeat these steps for any other apps you want to move to the SD card.
The not all apps can be moved to the SD card. Some apps, particularly system apps and certain large apps, may not have the option to change their storage location. Additionally, moving apps to an SD card may make them slower to load, as SD cards are generally slower than internal storage.
If you don’t see the option to move apps to the SD card in your device’s settings, it’s possible that your device does not support this feature, or the option may be located in a different location within the settings menu. In such cases, refer to your device’s user manual or contact the manufacturer’s support for assistance.
